Geek-Giving

Sending A Wave manor is very excited by this.  A new charity donation website has been started within the last week by Kirsty Walker called “Geek Giving”.  The idea is deliciously simple: if you are going to a convention or collector fair; replacing DVDs; buying at Forbidden Planet, Sheffield Space Centre (in the UK) or your favourite SF/comic book shop or website, donate just 1% of your spend to Geek Giving.

At the moment there are 2 charities listed on the website and Kirsty has said that Equality Now and Kids Need To Read will be added.  We spoke with Kirsty about this on 10 January and you’ll be able to hear all about it in our next offering.

I know that financially, all of us are going to feel the penny-pinching very much this year, but yet again if you are going to spend £70-odd on a convention and then a minimum of another £150 on hotel accommodation, then you’re only being asked to consider another £2 – less than a bottle of beer at London hotel bar prices …

We hope that this venture is successful and in fact we’re putting our money where our mouth is and have added a link on the right of the screen under “websites worth a visit”.

If you like this idea and don’t want to wait to listen to Kirsty talk about it, head on over to www.geek-giving.org to find out more.
