Overnight (in the UK …) Variety announced that 20th Century Fox is bringing a live action version of the 90’s anime series, “Cowboy Bebop” to the big screening. The release announced that Keanu Reeves would play Spike. I know that for anime fans this isn’t anything particularly new, but Variety sort of makes it kinda more “official” …
I was first introduced to this show by one of my best friends in Texas in the wake of the debacle commonly known as “Flan II” and, although I’m not generally one for Anime, instantly loved it; especially the 60’s style opening credits. Even though the project is far from hitting the big screen anytime soon, I can get rather excited about this.
“Cowboy Bebop” lasted for 26 episodes and one DVD film and tells the story of 2 bounty hunters in 2017, Spike and Jet, and their adventures on their ship “Bebop”. Many Browncoats who have seen it, have on more than one occasion commented on the “Firefly” feel that it has – and I’m not going to disagree on that point.
For those of us in the UK and who are Sky subscribers, the Anime Channel have aired it quite a lot (like Trouble with “Two Guys And A Girl”), so if it’s not on now, I’m sure it will be soon.
