Show 154: The One About the Browncoat Ball 2017

Browncoat Ball 2017I am so very pleased to welcome back Matt Black to the show to talk about 2017 Browncoat Ball which is being held in Gettysburg, PA, 11 – 13 August.

As longstanding “Firefly fans are aware, Joss Whedon has often cited the novel, “The Killer Angels” (which is about the Battle of Gettysburg) as one of the inspirations for the show.

If listening to Matt has whetted your appetite for attending (and I do hope it has!), you can find all information about how to buy your ticket, how to book your accommodation and details of the Ball’s events at their website, www.browncoatball.com, or their Facebook page, and you can keep track of them also via Twitter and Instagram.

As always, I hope you will enjoy the show and if you do, you can leave comments here or on our Facebook page or Twitter.

This month I continue with the “Firefly” LARP theme and speak with Ryan and Emily from the “Firefly LARP Bay Area” (their Facebook page is here) about their events.

It was a brilliant chat (they got up early on a Saturday!); and the amount of work that is put into these is nothing short of amazing.

Show 151: The One About CSTS 2017 Design Competion

csts-eqWelcome to the February show.

Very, very short this month; but what IS important is that Can’t Stop The Serenity is gearing up for this year and they NEED a design!

As in previous years, the Committee are calling on all Browncoats to submit a design.  If you fancy having a go, then please visit their website cantstoptheserenity.com where you are going to find all the details you need to take part.  The closing date is 6 March, so as the 10th Doctor would say, allons-y!

If you’re also considering hosting an event this year, the website is truly your one-stop-shop to have all your questions answered either by the information on the site OR contact them with your query.

As always, I hope you will enjoy the show and if you do, you can leave comments here or on our Facebook page or Twitter.

Show 150: The One From The Browncoat Family Reunion

bfu-2016Welcome to the January Sending A Wave – and a milestone of the 150th show!

In December 2016, Wendy attended the 10th anniversary event for 2006’s now “fabled” B3 Back-Up Bash in Los Angeles.  As the event drew nearer, it was decided to rename it the “Browncoat Family Reunion” and I’m pleased to say that that was exactly what it felt like.

I was able to see old friends, and re-acquaint myself with fellow fans not seen for a decade.

Thanks to Drew and Sheelagh from the Alberta Browncoats for their quintessential Canadian hospitality by allowing me to roomshare; to Scott Atkins for not only reminding people of the 10th anniversary, but also being a chauffeur for part of the weekend; and to Greg and Suzanne Edmonson for coming out to see out us

As always, I hope you will enjoy the show and if you do, you can leave comments here or on our Facebook page or Twitter.

Show 145: The One From DragonCon 2016 and Sean Faust

Was a bit quiet in September and anyone who has been to DragonCon knows that it takes a little while to recover from a DragonCon …

For the October show, I chat with the 76th Battalion prior to their marching in the annual DragonCon parade and you can keep up with them on their Facebook page, here.

I also chatted with Serenity Richards, from the South Eastern Browncoats in the closing a0046546949_2hours of the con catching up on their activities.  They are a great group to link into and have a brilliant line of fan merchandise and their website is here.  They are also on Facebook, here.

Lastly, Sean Faust and I chatted about cabbages and kings (which was mostly cut – sorry!) but mainly about his new song with Mikey Mason, “A Man Named Jayne” which you can buy via Bandcamp, here; Sean’s website is here; his Facebook page is here.

Incoming news; the location of the Browncoat Ball 2017 has been chosen and it will be held in historic Gettysburg, PA!  Congratulations to the organisers.  The Browncoat Ball 2017 Facebook page is here, The Browncoat Ball Facebook page is here and the website is here.

Joss Whedon is coming to the Alamo Drafthouse in South Lamarr, Austin TX on 14 October!  He is taking part in a Q & A earlier in the evening with local singer, Shawnee Kilgore, about their musical collaboration AND he’s staying to introduce a screening of “SERENITY” at 22:30 the same evening.  Full details about the “SERENITY” screening can be found here.

Of course, I can’t finish this without saying “congratulations” to Alan and Charissa Tudyk who got married last weekend.

Of course you can also download the show directly from here. Or listen to the show on PLayerFM by clicking here.  We can also be found on Stitcher.com here.  If none of those are for you, then you will always be able to listen to the latest show via soundcloud.com here.
